This is to inform you that I intend to make public your time when head of a
corrupt and cruel CPS who were responsible for maliciously attempting to
convict my brother Alex. Without an investigation or a scrap of
evidence he served 15 months on high security remand as well as time
in Lewes prison without medication. Charged with stabbing a police
officer the case was thrown out on the day of the trial. Alex never
recovered from his ordeal and was released into care where he died. I
had to use my pension to rescue him. The police now agree to the
following:- "PC Cameron believed he had been stabbed, he had not"
I tried several times to contact you and was referred to Sussex CPS
who refused to discuss the case. An appeal was also refused.

Statement by Michael Coughtrey regarding Giles Watling MP

At a meeting with Giles Watling MP he promised to help regarding the vulnerable
and the 'withholding of evidence'.
Months passed and his Parliamentary Office Team?? were hard at work on the problem.
When I pressed the MP for some feedback on progress the response was that he could not help.
At no time was I asking him to deal with Alex's case but with over 900 dropped trials
in the past year my concern is for other vulnerable people who may be in prison.
That concern is supported by a previous Director of the CPS.
I would like to see legislation that deliberate 'withholding of evidence' is a criminal offence.
The police were aware that the forensic report showed the stab vest was unmarked.
I had to write to the Judge in order for my defence team to obtain a forensic report
that arrived just in time for the trial which was then dropped due to 'lack of evidence'.

'THE BRIGHTON POLICE' - a one-sided ITV documentary

We should all appreciate the work the majority of good, hard-working, honest police officers carry out.
Extremely difficult and not without danger our safety relies on the men and women who serve in the force.
Unfortunately, there are officers who bring shame on the police by their criminal actions.
While that in itself is cause for concern it is even worse when Sussex Police Professional Standards and senior police officers join forces in order to cover-up a police crime and that, in turn, is backed by the IPCC.
I am grateful to the Brighton public for their help in the rescue of my brother Alex.
The following is an example of the lengths Brighton Police will go to convict an innocent man in order to obtain hero status, an award for bravery and promotion. Of course, the police were unaware of my existence and thought that by ganging up with the duty doctor and solicitor an ill Alex would present no problem for their evil plan to win a conviction.
This is the story of a stabbing that never happened with a knife that Alex never held.
The story of how Pc Stewart Cameron faced near death after he was attacked by my brother with a large kitchen knife. After 6 weeks in Lewes prison, it was a prison doctor who realised that Alex was seriously ill and he was transferred to a high security hospital.
Denied a solicitor who would defend him and no chance of a forensic report on the stab-vest my brother was in danger of a life sentence. A lucky break came when I obtained the witness evidence. At the time of his arrest, the solicitor informed Alex that the officer standing next to Pc Cameron witnessed the stabbing. This was a lie as the officers statement included 'I did not see a knife so I did not witness a stabbing'.
The Court now allowed a change of solicitor.
Our own solicitor who had been primed to take the case at short notice obtained a forensic report on the vest.
The report confirmed the vest to be completely unmarked. Pc Cameron forgot to stab his vest.
The police gave up and the trial was abandoned 15 months after the arrest due to lack of evidence.

Brighton police did everything they could to prevent a forensic examination of the vest. Only our efforts to prevent a trial until we obtained a forensic report a year after Alex's arrest saved him from a life sentence based on the above police lies. That evidence, along with the fact that Alex was witnessed holding a small mobile phone, showed the stab vest was completely unmarked.

TORTURE AT BRIGHTON POLICE STATION!!

Alex, a 58yr old musician with no criminal record, is diverted from being taken to hospital by PC Cameron and taken instead to Brighton Police Station. With no witness or forensic evidence to support his claim that he had been stabbed with a very large knife D/C Mick Richards gets to work and attempts to obtain a confession from a sick man. We show a few of the 250 questions fired at Alex in a 40 minute interview.

  • Question 1: - "Yesterday afternoon, Alex, PC Cameron was stabbed in the chest with a large kitchen knife. The only thing preventing serious injury or death was the fact that he was wearing a protective stab vest. Now you were responsible for that attack. Tell me about it".

  • Question 157: - "What happened when you lunged forward and the knife went into his protective vest, what happened then?"

  • Question 165: - "What were you thinking as you were putting the knife into his protective vest?"

  • Question 220: - "Bearing in mind that had the officer not been wearing a protective vest which thank god he was, that he could have suffered some potentially serious injuries, how does that make you feel?"

  • Question 241: - "I just want you to bear in mind that a very serious injury was prevented by a protective piece of equipment being worn by a police officer and that you attacked him with a knife, is there anything you want to say at this time?"

This interview to a sick man must have been torture.
He was then locked up for 6 weeks before finally receiving hospital treatment. 15 months later, with evidence that Alex held a small mobile phone and not a large kitchen knife, the CPS were forced to drop the case!!

Statement Regarding Graham Bartlett

The retirement of Graham Bartlett as Chief of Brighton Police attracted a number of comments, of a complimentary nature, from those in authority. We, on the other hand, are able to tell a different story which reveals how a failure of duty and making false statements presented no problem to Graham as those in authority could be relied on to protect him. The evidence concerning Brighton Police and our brother Alex is well documented and follows this statement. At our request both Des Turner MP and Simon Kirby MP sought an answer regarding the treatment Alex received at the hands of Brighton Police when they wrongly accused him of stabbing a police officer in the chest. This should have been investigated in a serious manner as it was clearly obvious that stabbing a police officer in the chest with a 20cm kitchen knife in front of a number of witnesses would be expected to provide supporting evidence. After 15 months on remand the case was dropped when our unexpected last minute change to a top London lawyer demolished a humiliated crown prosecution unable to produce the evidence.
We assume that Graham had a copy of all the witness statements when his short reply to Des Turner included:-
“It would seem the version of events that PC Cameron gave in regards to being attacked with a knife was supported by his fellow officer and the Mental Health Assessment Team”.
Not true Graham, as you well know, in fact a deliberate lie to protect your officers.
A year later C/I Taylor, who was nowhere near the alleged crime scene, and who claimed Alex
“lunged toward the officer sticking the tip of the blade into the officers stab vest with some force”, sent a similar reply to Simon Kirby MP.
This is what the fellow officer standing next to PC Cameron stated, “I did not see the suspect with a knife so did not witness a stabbing”.
So did anyone in the Mental Health Assessment Team witness Alex holding a very large kitchen knife?
Not according to their signed statements. One of the doctors did state that he noticed a small mobile phone in Alex's hand.
The fact that a knife was removed from the kitchen and was made available to PC Cameron, who received a bravery award, is another story suffice to say it was certainly not handled by Alex. It was the view of Police Superintendent Samantha Coates that Alex never stabbed PC Cameron and that there were no witness statements that Alex held a knife. It took nearly a years effort to obtain a forensic report which showed the officers stab vest to be completely unmarked, something his officers were well aware of. Grahams attitude was that he supported his officers regardless and if we wished to complain take it to the IPCC. In other words despite the suffering and expense his officers had caused our family as well as the huge cost to the taxpayer he could not care less, a disgraceful, ignorant and irresponsible reply to an MP. Graham was also well aware that the IPCC would come to his rescue and so it proved.
We had no faith in the IPCC but with the strong encouragement of Simon Kirby MP felt we must give it a try.
Another year of our life was about to be wasted as the IPCC handed the complaint straight back to Sussex Police Professional Standards Dept. who after an 8 week investigation assisted Graham with a request to the IPCC to discontinue the investigation.
At least they investigated it which is more than Sussex Police Authority did when the complaint was blocked by Dinah Longden who is now Policy Officer for the Sussex Police Commissioner. With the support of his family and Brighton residents Alex was not the expected pushover a vulnerable 58 year old musician was thought to be and he was saved from a possible life sentence on the fabrication of police evidence.
Fabrication backed by Graham Bartlett the new Chairman of the Local Safeguarding Children Board.
There were a number of statements published in the Argus, by senior officers not at the scene of the alleged crime, referring to a knife being plunged into the chest of PC Cameron. The U.S.A. manufacturers used this information to promote the safety of the stab vest.
Graham Bartlett passed our correspondence to his most experienced officer to come up with a defence. Inspector David Derrick's effort included
“I am not a forensic expert, nor was I involved in the case, but what I do know as an experienced officer is that sometimes forensic evidence is not always supportive of actual witness statements and all the evidence has to be taken into consideration”.
Amazing, no witness support, no forensic evidence, case dropped by the CPS and Graham Bartlett still supported his senior officers who were nowhere near the alleged stabbing.

HOME OFFICE ACKNOWLEDGE WE ARE A POLICE STATE.

Following the most outrageous case of police corruption this century the Home Office admit that we live in a police state. Michael Coughtrey an 81 year old pensioner tried to obtain justice when Brighton police attempted, with the support of the duty defence solicitor, to sentence his innocent brother to life imprisonment in order to give a police officer a bravery award and media hero status. The near death stabbing with a very large kitchen knife of Pc Cameron was proved to be a lie and after 15 months the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. The only way to bring the police officers who lied to justice was through a complaint to the IPCC. The Home Office and the Ministry for Justice are unable to intervene as the IPCC must be independent. The complaint was forwarded by the IPCC to the Sussex Police Professional Standards Dept. who spent 8 weeks on an investigation. Realising they could not defend their senior officers they requested a dispensation on the grounds that the complaint was 'out of time'. The IPCC blocked the complaint. The IPCC should not have blocked the complaint which was not out of time and which the IPCC Statutory Guidance clearly states that once an investigation has begun it cannot be blocked by a dispensation. The appeal was refused. The IPCC failed to take any interest in the complaint which contained evidence of serious police corruption. It follows from this that the police are able to act outside the law and we have a police state. While the Home Office admit to these failings and state that new legislation is expected to provide an improved complaints system innocent victims of the police are unprotected from imprisonment, death or injury and the police escape justice.

Following the Hillsborough verdict public safety requires Simon Kirby to act now.

A 58 year old man with no previous convictions was locked up and denied medication for 6 weeks when a corrupt police officer, Stewart Cameron, in search of hero status claimed he was stabbed in the chest with a large kitchen knife. That man was my brother Alex who never recovered from his ordeal and now requires full time care. Simon Kirby to his credit tried to get the IPCC to act. As part of a cover-up involving senior police officers, the CPS, Sussex Professional Standards Department, and the Burchell Williams defence solicitor the IPCC referred the case back to Sussex Police where it was ruled 'out of time'. Graham Bartlett who at the time was Brightons Police Chief twice lied to Simon when he claimed the stabbing allegation was true took early retirement and now holds the post as Chairman of the Brighton & Hove Local Safeguarding Children Board. PC Stewart Cameron was promoted to DC Stewart Cameron and is part of the Brighton Safeguarding and Investigation Unit. Other senior police officers involved in the cover-up were also promoted. Simon Kirby MP has all the evidence regarding Alex's innocence when the prosecution was dropped at the trial due to 'lack of evidence'. Simon is also aware of a Police Superintendents investigation that concluded Alex did not hold the knife planted at the scene of the alleged crime. In view of the posts now held by Bartlett and Cameron public safety is at risk. We appeal to Simon to act now and seek an enquiry into the cover-up and the criminal actions of those involved.

15 MONTHS AFTER THE ARREST THE CASE WAS THROWN OUT OF COURT DUE TO LACK OF EVIDENCE.
ARGUS ADMITTED IT WAS ALL A PACK OF LIES PROVIDED BY THE POLICE.

It now appears (Argus 31/1/13) the 8 full time staff of the Sussex Police Authority are now the staff of the Police Commissioner. They are led by the Policy Officer Dinah Longden, who blocked our complaint regarding police corruption, and the previous chairman, now Deputy Police Commissioner, Steve Waight.

How many voters believed Katy Bourne's election slogan 'Ensuring we are all safer in Sussex'?
We forwarded details of Alex's suffering at the hands of the police and put the following question to the Commissioner.
'What steps, if any, do you intend to take to ensure the vulnerable are safer in Sussex'?
The answer we have received is that this is the responsibility of the Chief Constable.
So much for the Commissioners self proclaimed integrity and fairness.
An opt out clause giving the green light to continue fabricating evidence.

IMPORTANT WARNING FOR SUSSEX RESIDENTS

Imagine the position you would find yourself in if you became ill and the police were called to take you to hospital.
You would not expect to end up in a prison cell accused of knifing a police officer in the chest with an 8inch blade.
That was the information given to our 58 year old brother Alex by senior officers who were nowhere near him when he was taken from his flat. It does not require a great deal of imagination to picture the treatment Alex received from the police for harming one of their officers. So there you are, seriously ill and not eating with no a hope of proving you are innocent.
The duty solicitor, Burchell Williams, forced on you will immediately inform you that they consider you will be found guilty.
The Argus will print pages on how a brave police officer nearly died after being stabbed in the chest.
You manage to survive for 6 weeks before being transferred to hospital.
If you are lucky enough to have family support and they are able to use their pension to rescue you,
then, after 15 months, you may find that the charges are dropped through lack of evidence.
They will of course have to fight Brighton CPS in order to get a forensic report on the police officers uniform.
Not easy as Brighton CPS are aware that there is not a mark on it.
We have informed just about everyone in authority about this case and it is a complete cover-up.

IPCC BRIGHTON POLICE CORRUPTION COVER-UP CONTINUES

Kathryn Lawcock casework manager runs out of excuses. In a fit of pique she drops D/S Jones in the proverbial by trying to convince us that his 8 week investigation was a 10 day recording decision. 'I will not enter into any further correspondence' she sulks.
Our question as to why our complaint was not referred back to the IPCC by Sussex Police, a mandatory requirement of the Statutory Guidance, remains unanswered. To find the answer we are expected to seek a judicial review. Meanwhile the Minister for Policing has no involvement in cases that concern police corruption.
His helpful suggestion is to visit the local Citizens Advice Bureau.
