Suffolk Closed Championship
Two Clacton players were entered into the Suffolk Closed Championship. Melvin Steele won the intermediate section.

Clacton Club Championship
ALL Club members are encouraged to enter, so please try to be there.
The format is 2 rounds held per evening over 5 evenings. Members enter up to 8 games.
(giving some allowance for those who have holiday booked in this period)
Swiss pairings (subject to sufficient numbers, otherwise all play all)
Any player present but not paired to have a full point bye.
Handicap/Timings: Total clock time of 80 minutes per game.
Time is split in inverse proportion to players current grades.

NECL division 1 - Clacton A drew 2 - 2 with Chelmsford A
Melvin steele obtained a win, whilst Andrew Salmon and David Pearce were held to draws.
All results for the season are now completed.
Clacton A end the season in 7th place (out of 10) in division 1, as do Clacton B in division 2.
With Clacton C coming 2nd in division 3, we will have no relegations or promotions.
The club championship will now run with 2 rounds per evening over 5 weeks.
All members are encouraged to participate. (see above for details)

NECL division 1 - Clacton A draw 2-2 against Witham A
Peter Keffler obtained a win, whilst Andrew Salmon and David Pearce were held to draws.
Before this result, both teams, along with Colchester A and Braintree A were all on 4 match points at the bottom of the division.
Braintree A, who have played all of their matches and have the lowest board points, are now the candidates for relegation.
Clacton A still have two more matches to play.

NECL division 2 - Clacton B draw 2 - 2 with Billericay A
Clacton B were outgraded on every board so a win by Martin Alvin and draws from Kyriakos Chovardas and David Welsh was a good result.
All games have now been played in this division and Clacton B ended the season on 7 match points and positioned 7th out of 10.

Suffolk league division 2 - Clacton win 4-0 by default against Woodbridge School
This was the last match of the season fror Clacton who have ended in second place in the division on 24 board points.
This is just half a point behind leaders Manningtree who ended on 24½ (despite losing more matches than Clacton).

NECL division 3 - Clacton C win 3½ - ½ against Brentwood D
Wins by Andrew Todd, Paul Eustace, Mike Coughtrey and a draw by Nigel Lake secured this last match of the season.
Witham B narrowly ended top of this division with 13 match points, the same as Clacton C.
Clacton C's very close second place being decided by their 22½ total game points, to Witham B's 23.

Suffolk league division 2 - Saxmundham A beat Clacton, 2½-1½
Melvin Steele had a win and Mike Coughtrey was held to a draw.
Clacton now have 20 games points this season and are second to leaders Manningtree who have 23.
Both teams have just one more match to play.

NECL division 2 - Brentwood B beat Clacton B, 3-1
Melvin Steele and Andrew Todd obtained draws.
Brentwood outgraded Clacton by an average of 24 points per board and are currently top of this division on 15 points.

NECL Plate Semi Final - CRGS draw 2-2 with Clacton A
David Pearce and David Welsh producd wins for Clacton.
However, the grammar school wins were on the top two boards so they now go through to the final against Chelmsford B.

NECL Plate - Clacton A beat Chelmsford C 3½-½
In round 2 of the NECL Knockout Plate, Clacton A had a comfortable win over the Chelmsford C team.
Clacton's points came from board wins by Peter Keffler, David Pearce and Andrew Todd while Andrew Salmon was held to a draw.
Clacton A will now go forward into round 3.

NECL Plate - Clacton B were beaten 1½-2½ by Braintree B
In round 2 of the NECL Knockout Plate, Clacton B had a tough match against the Braintree B team.
Clacton's only board win came from Melvin Steele and John Lambert obtained a draw.

NECL division 3 - Baddow B defeated 1-3 by Clacton C
The board wins for Clacton were scored by Andrew Todd, Mike Coughtrey and Nigel Lake.
Clacton C are currently top of this division with 100% match points after 4 of the 9 games they will play this season.

NECL division 1 - Writtle A win 3½ - ½ over Clacton A
Writtle A are the strongest team in the league this season, and currently top of division 1.
With a daunting average ECF grade of 172, they easily outgraded Clacton A by an average of 33 grading points per board.
However, David Pearce had a very good result and saved a possible whitewash by obtaining a draw.

NECL knockout - Brentwood A draw 2-2 with Clacton A
In round 1 of the NECL Knockout, Clacton A were held to a draw against the Brentwood A team.
John Lambert produced Clacton's only board win whilst Andrew Salmon and David Pearce obtained draws.
After botton board eliminations Brentwood A were declared the winners and go through to round 2.
Clacton A will go into the Plate competition.

NECL knockout - Clacton B loose 1-3 at home to Maldon B
In round 1 of the NECL Knockout, Clacton B were beaten at home by the Maldon B team.
Clacton's new player, Kiriakos Chovardas produced their only board win.
Maldon B go through to round 2 and Clacton B will go into the Plate competition.

NECL division 1 - Brentwood A beaten 1½ - 2½ by Clacton A
The first NECL match of the new season for Clacton A produced a surprise win against the Brentwood A team.
David Pearce and John Lambert obtained wins and Andrew Salmon was held to a draw.

NECL division 3 - Colchester Royal Grammar School beaten 0 - 3 by Clacton C
This first NECL match of the new season for Clacton C resulted in a hollow victory against CRGS.
Clacton had to default one board due to a last minute player illness and Nigel Lake got Clacton's only played win.
The normal result would have been 3-1 to CRGS, but the games had to be friendlies because the CRGS players were unregistered.
Due to this technicality, the official result had to be a 0-3 win to Clacton C.

Early Start for New Season!
Please note that the club will re-open for the new season on Tuesday 6th September,
from 7:30pm at the usual venue, Holland Public Hall, Frinton Road, Holland on Sea.
Newcomers are very welcome and we need more team players at all levels, so please come along.
This date replaces the previously advertised date as we need to discuss/confirm nominal teams
for new fixtures, and other matters, so it is important that members attend.
If you cannot attend please contact John to confirm future availability.
