Keffler Shield Club Handicap Tournament - Latest Standings
You will see from the sorted cross table (click heading) that nobody can now catch up to Andrew's winning position with 7½ out of 8.Any remaining play being for 2nd/3rd placings.
Contenders are Peter, on 6; David, on 4½; with 2 games in hand - could get to 6½; John on 4, also with 2 games in hand - could get to 6; Mike on 3½ could get to 5½; Martin on 5 etc..
Although it was considered that we start another event in the remaining time, it was agreed that we play one more evening (on 15th) of 2 rounds so those who have missed a week (and therefore played up to 6 rounds) can cath up and complete 8 rounds. This should also decide 2nd. 3rd... placings.
The rapid play which usually follows this event will therefore take place on the 22nd.
Last year this was done as all play all. With 8 players it took place over 7 rounds in 3 hours -> 20 mins/round (10 mins per clock).
(with 9/10 players it would have been 8/9 rounds of 16 mins; 11-13 players it would have been 10-12 rounds of 12 mins. For more than 14 players it was to have been a 6 round Swiss of 20 mins/round). Is that favourable again?
Update - Mike has proposed a piece handicap for this event, based on grade difference and John has suggested the table below, where the lower graded player has the choice to remove opponent material as follows before play commences;-
10-19 points difference - Pawn
20-29 points difference - Bishop
30-39 points difference - Rook
40-49 points difference - Rook + 2 Pawns
50-59 points difference - Rook + 3 Pawns
60+ points difference - Queen
