Suffolk U125's are National chess champions!
Three players from Clacton (John Lambert, Mike Coughtrey, Melvin Steele) took part in this event to play for Suffolk.
- 30/06/2009 - Club Rapid Play Tournament
This year's Rapid Play was won by John Lambert.
John scored 6 points out of a possible 7.
- 23/06/2009 - Club Swiss Handicap Final Result
Last years winner, Andrew Salmon, looked set to win again having taken the lead up to round 9, on 7 points.
After round 10 though, there was a 3-way tie as Andrew was joined by Peter Keffler and David Pearce all on 7 points.
David got a win in the final tie-breaking round to end on 8 points and becomes this years winner of the club shield.
In second position was Melvin Steele on 7½ points, whilst Andrew and Peter, both still on 7 points, were joint third. See final table.

This follows on from the end of all league matches each season.
It is now well under way with 6 rounds completed so far and Andrew Salmon leading the field.
There are still 8 rounds left to play though before final placings are determined.

Clacton A have now played their last match of the season but are still bottom of division 1.
In this final match, Writtle A beat Clacton A, 3½-½.
Clacton's half point came from a draw by Andrew Salmon on top board.

Clacton A drew 2-2 against Baddow.
There were four board draws, from Andrew Salmon, David Pearce, Peter Keffler and John Lambert.

Baddow B were defeated 1-3 by Clacton B.
This was Clacton's final match of the season.
Wins were achieved by John Lambert,Mike Coughtrey and Andrew Todd.
Clacton B thus finished the season in a mid table position.

Clacton C were defeated by Chelmsford D, 3-1.
Clacton's winning player was Andrew Todd.

Dunmow defeated Clacton B, 3½-½.
Clacton's half point came from a draw on board 3 by Andrew Todd.

NECL League Division 3 + League Summary
Clacton C were defeated by Brentwood C, 1½-2½
Andrew Todd gained Clacton's only win and Geoff Manning obtained a draw.
Clacton C have one match left to play this season and are currently 9th in this division.
Witham B, having beaten Colchester D and on the same match points, have won this division by the narrowest margin of a ½ game point (22 to 21½).
In division 2, Braintree B are still in the lead ahead of Brentwood B.
With 2 matches to play Colchester B are within range of this lead, but Clacton B are still down in 7th position.
Division 1 has been won by Stour Valley, even though they have one more match to play.
Having not lost a single match this season no other team can equal their score. Clacton A are still bottom of this division.

NECL League Division 2 + League Summary
Brentwood B defeated Clacton B, 2½-1½.
John Lambert gained Clacton's only win and David Welsh obtained a draw.
With just over a month left to complete league games, teams are nearing their likely final placings.
Division 1 is headed by Stour Valley, though Writtle A and Chelmsford A are within range.
Clacton A are bottom of this division and face likely relegation.
Division 2 is almost won by Braintree B, with Clacton B currently 7th (out of 10).
Division 3 will be won by Witham B if they at least draw their final match with Colchester D.
Here Clacton C are currently in 6th position (out of 10).
All 3 Clacton teams have just two matches each left to play for this season.

Clacton C were defeated by Colchester Grammar School, 1-3.
Clacton's point came from a win on top board by David Welsh.

Chelmsford currently rank second in this division and outgraded Clacton by an average by 22 grading points per board.

Clacton's Ray Scott and Geoff Manning got wins, and Andrew Todd obtained a draw.

This result keeps Clacton A at the bottom of division 1.

Clacton's points came from a win by Melvin Steele and a draw by David Pearce.
This result put Clacton A alone at the bottom of division 1, a position they previously shared with Braintree A.

Braintree A were trailing at the bottom of division 1, but this result means they now share this position with Clacton A.

Clacton obtained a 2½ - 1½ win against Woodbridge.
Clacton's wins came from John Lambert and Andrew Todd.
Mike Coughtrey was held to a draw.

Outgunned by an average of 25 grading points per board Clacton A lost to Stour Valley ½-3½.
Clacton's half point came from a draw by David Pearce.

Clacton C were significantly outgraded by Colchester C and lost their match 3-1.
This was not helped by Clacton having to default board four, but Andrew Todd managed a good win on board one.
Club reopens after the New Year on Tuesday 13th. January.

NECL Knockout Cup
After being given a bye in round two, Clacton A were paired against Brentwood A in round three, the quarter final.
The strong Brentwood team won the match 3-1.
The Clacton point came from draws by Andrew Salmon and by David Pearce.

NECL League Division 2
Clacton B drew their match 2-2 against Billericay A.
Andrew Todd produced Clacton's only board win, whilst John Lambert and Michael Coughtrey managed to obtain draws.
Clacton B are now running top of this division in terms of match and board points, though they have also played the most matches so far.
In terms of percentage points of played matches, they are on 60%, behind Colchester B (100%), Brentwood B (100%) and Braintree B (83%).

Clacton had board wins from Melvin Steele and Danny Hardman (by a default) and John Lambert obtained a draw

Writtle B were beaten 1½-2½ by Clacton A.
Clacton's board 2 win by Robert Stephens, clinched this result after Andrew Salmon, David Pearce and Melvin Steele were all held to draws on the other boards.

Clacton B won 3-1 against Chelmsford B.
Clacton's points came from wins by David Welsh and Andrew Todd, and draws from John Lambert and Mike Coughtrey.
- 14/11/2008 - NECL Knockout Cup/Plate
Maldon B beat Clacton B 3½-½ in the plate competition.
Clacton's half point was a draw from Andrew Todd.
In round 2 of the knockout cup competition, Clacton A were given a bye, so will go through to round 3.

Clacton were beaten 1½-2½ by Ipswich.
Melvin Steele secured Clacton's only board win with David Pearce providing a draw.
As 3 of Clacton's round one matches were losses, they will not proceed to round 2.

A strong Brentwood A team won 2½-1½ against Clacton A.
Clacton's only win was by Andrew Salmon. David Pearce obtained a draw.

Colchester D managed to hold Clacton C to a 2-2 draw.
Clacton had board wins from Ray Scott and James Roberts.
- 28/10/2008 - NECL division 2
Clacton B lost to Colchester B, 1-3.
There were draws on two boards, from John Lambert and Danny Hardman.
- 22/10/2008 - NECL division 2
Clacton B drew 2-2 against Braintree B.
There was a board win from Melvin Steele and half point draws from John Lambert and David Welsh.
- 15/10/2008 - Mixed Results in NECL Knockout Cup
In round one, Colchester B were beaten 1½-2½ by Clacton A.
This was Clacton's first match win for the new season.
Clacton board wins were by David Pearce and David Welsh. Andrew Salmon was held to a draw.
Clacton B however lost 1-3 to Maldon A in this event, where a default win on board 4 was awarded to Danny Hardman.
- 13/10/2008 - Clacton continue Slow start to New Season
Understrength Clacton teams continued the slow start into the new season.
We were beaten 3-1 by Sudbury in the second match in round one of the Suffolk League Cup.
Melvin Steele and John Lambert each obtained a draw.
The first match in the North Essex League was in division one, where Clacton A were beaten 3-1, by Witham A.
Andrew Salmon and David Peace each obtained a draw.
- 06/10/2008 - Slow start to the New Season
Clacton have now played their first match of the new season, loosing 1½-2½ to Adastral Park.
This was the first of three matches in round one of the Suffolk League Cup
.
David Welsh scored a win and John Lambert was held to a draw.
- 14/07/2008 - Extra Openings!
Normally the club is shut for July August, but this year, on a trial basis, there will be extra opening for two evenings on Tuesdays, 22nd & 29th July.
